Plus, the low-rev lag is much better dealt with in a manual Saab than an automatic. I had a manual 9000 Aero, and traded that for my wife's automatic 9-5. Absolutely no comparison...the lag with the automatic is much more pronounced and you must wait for the tranny to deal with it.
Plus, as you stated, there is just so much more "involvement" with a stick. My '95 900S is a stick. Granted, it only has 150 HP, but I can make it feel fast by shifting the gears myself. The engine actually has a good powerband if you know how to shift to find it.
