The worst part with internet is all the rumors based on half truth told a second or third time around.
How come that GM set 100K intervals for the Saturn timing belt using the same V6 engine and I don't think I have read much about them having as many problems.
Also that Saab decided to replace the timing belt for free at the first 60K interval BUT NOT replace the pulleys was just an insane idea and that many belts (pulleys) failed soon after when the old and tired pulley bearings were tightened up again with a new belt. After all the feedback Saab must have had from the 2.5L V6 and timing belt failures and then come up with the half ass idea of only doing the belt at 60K is beyond me.
I have a lot of 9-5 V6 owners and I haven't seen a belt break in about 7-8 years.
Your Saab tech connection might not know the difference between a 9-3 V6 and a 9-5 V6 since I'm pretty sure he was talking about the coolant tank position on the 9-3 using the Holden V6. The 9-5 V6 coolant tank is as far away from the turbo as the 4 cyl one.
But I still think a real Saab should have the ignition key on the dashboard.
