This is almost starting to look like one of those pointless threads on the general board that some posters keeps going at, lol
I don't get this sentence correctly so please tell me.
<But in all seriousness the oil pan could of just as well come off the v6 being it had poor neglect>
Do you think my picture could be from a V6 engine that was neglected and I'm pawning it off as a 4cyl?
Or do you mean that even a neglected V6 engine could show similar sludge?
If the latter. No I don't think it's possible after all the V6 engines I have seen and the ones I have lifted the valve covers off. I think it would be very difficult to find a V6 engine showing this kind of sludge since I haven't seen one yet showing less that pristine conditions around the camshafts and crankshaft.
If we had had the same discussion on the 9000 board comparing the B234I, L and R to the 3.0L V6 I wouldn't even had bothered to defend the V6 which was this pos anemic over engineered GM product that was also used in the Cadillac Catera.
Strange is that the Catera had a recall for the timing belt much more in depth than the free belt replacements Saab received every 30K miles up to the 90K service.
But back to the timing chain.
The timing chain setup on those 9000 234 engines were very strong except the non hardened balance shaft sprockets on the 91-92 which took out the timing chain sometimes.
You might remember that Saab had timing chain failures in the 80s 8V engines mostly due to a super stupid over engineered chain tensioner that broke and it wasn't until around 86, I think, that they came out with a much more simple design that could be retrofitted to all the older engines as well and that made those engine very strong as well.
So a none retrofitted 8V engine would not have been a good suggestion for Bob either.
Toyota use timing belt with about 105K intervals and just about no rumors of breaking.
Volvo use timing belt with belt intervals through the later 15 years of 70, 105, 120 and now 150K intervals with just about no info of failures even on the cars having passed the mileage.
