It was the battery after all Posted by Doug W [Email] (#2371) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Doug W) on Fri, 14 Nov 2014 20:22:31 In Reply to: Re: Sluggish starting ends up no starting, Doug W [Profile/Gallery] , Thu, 18 Sep 2014 14:00:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This is the first really below freezing weather we've had and the car would not crank. I removed the battery and took it to AutoZone. It was at 12.0 volts so they told me to come back in half an hour while they charged it. The initial test said it was OK. Well, I came back after half an hour and sure enough, it would not hold a charge. They gave me a new battery since the original one they sold me was under 36 months old. The DuraLast Gold only lasted 27 months. I looked at my records and this car ('04 9-5) consumes a battery every 27 - 34 months. It's gotta be the thermal cycling that takes them out. A NACA duct in the good just above the battery with a duct into the battery box would be perfect! A better solution would be to put the battery under the floor in the boot like my BMW. I typically get eight or more years out of a battery in that car.
