On the other SAAB Bulletin Boards, at one time they called me "SPARKY", before my new affectionate "X-treme" name..
YES--I AM LOCKING THE SHIFT KEY TO MAKE MY POINT----
OK, for you long time SAABERS---,SAAB always, ALWAYS had spark plugs for application. I (think) I was the FIRST to post WAY BACK on the NG900BB , and 9-3 BB that the BCPR6ES were being installed into cars that originally shipped with the OE platinum plugs.
Now, there are all types of reference charts on the web, and Taliaferro SAAB does a nice job here.
But, like IAN uses Mobil 1 15W-50 because of his application of Florida heat, plus the fact he claims he tows a trailer (in the heat), the better plug for him is the COLDER NGK BCPR7ES. And as I wrote, if it were MY car, I would equip it with this plug.
Why?
The application of Mr. Glenday generates a lot of heat, and it is heat that leads to preignition or spark knock as we all know it. It is a safety precaution to let him drive hard with his trailer.
As I posted over 2-3 years (?) ago Wowow!! how time flies------- :
The original reason for the BCPR6ES plug replacement was for customer complaints of "long cranking times on start up" on certain 9-5 cars. It was also for fouling concerns 9-3 and 9-5 in cold-weather climates (like mine)--not Ian's. You know, clear off the snowy windshield then rush inside to drink a cup of coffee, then drive 2 miles in -5C/20 F weather and shut it off ??? Hardly a Florida (or warm climate) concern here.
Anyway, back on point-----
If you guys are going to TOW A TRAILER IN THE HEAT, or through the mountains, the COLDER PLUG will not KNOCK as early as the BCPR6ES plug will--allowing you to safely stay in the boost a little longer.
For all of you who live in these HOT WEATHER LOCATIONS , consider what is written and documented here.
25 plus years of SAABing, over a million SAAB miles behind the wheel
