I agree that driving into the reserve is fine...
Driving it until it stops is another story, it says in the owner's manual that running it out of fuel can be harmful to your Saab.
The DTE function is fairly forgiving I've found. I've driven up to 6kms past "0" on mine with no ill effects. After that particular trip (I was on my way to a gas station, stuck in traffic), it took about 66L to fill it up- meaning I still had 4L left! (about 30kms at 12L/100kms)
That said, I usually head for Sunoco (the only place to get 94 Octane in Ontario) when the reserve light comes on. Actually, the only times its been close has been when I've been driving out of my way to fill 'er up with the good stuff.
