I can only comment on the Audi since I used own an allroad (A6 derivative) with the 2.7T engine. I liked the audi 2.7T engine once it got going, but I had significant problems with tranny lag which is a serious issue on the tiptronic - no issues with the 6 speed manual. Such a safety issue (always lagged when pulling out into traffic or changing lanes) that it led me to get rid of the car after only a year. Audi claims that this the way the car is programmed and is by design -- many complaints on audiworld about the lag. Audi service was poor as well and left me very frustrated. Other than that the Audi is a nice car and probably has a bit better overall fit and finish than the aero with the exception of the seats where the aero stands out.
I would stay away from the 2.7T matted to the automatic. Keep in mind also that the 2.7T engine is going bye bye in the next year or so. The A6 with the V8 is a nice machine.
As far as I am concerned I am sticking to Saabs and BMWs for my euro luxury and speed.
Also -- search the board on 2.7T -- lots of discussion on this topic.
