A Honda Civic died on me once in exactly the same manner (bad main relay), and I know of someone whose Mercedes S-class (pre-Chrysler) did the same thing (bad engine computer)... unfortunately, virtually any recent make and model of motor vehicle can conk out on you without warning when something electronic goes on the fritz...
