I might get some criticism for this post, but I had quite the surprise when I got home from work today. It was a $391 bill for a 30k service I thought was going to be free on my '00 Aero. In fact, everyone at the dealership at the time thought it would be free and I left the dealership with a $0 bill.
Until I opened my mail today several weeks later showing everything was declined, surprise, you owe us $400. Apparently I had to have it in there for that service 2 months ago for it to be covered (car was bought in Feb., I took it in the beginning of April for this). That 30k service is only valid if you take it in within the first 3 years of service, apparently. Even though I'm covered for 4 years/50k. So basically if I'd taken a little road trip to get it to 30k a little sooner (by the 3 year mark), I'd have saved myself $400. Anyway, what a treat and a bill I'm pretty unprepared to pay. Fantastic timing. Not only that, it's sort of losing out on something I'd thought I'd be getting since the day I took ownership of the car. It's almost a bait and switch issue, except of course they can go to the contract to prove me wrong. So now they've pissed of a loyal, previously happy Saab customer over 2 months and some fine print.
I guess I feel it seems to me they are really splitting hairs here and I think if this were the case since I have basically what amounts to a personal relationship with my service guy, someone might have mentioned something about this loophole in any one of my previous visits or when I took it in for it's 20k service. I really didn't know this was coming. Perhaps that's my fault. This whole 3 year thing is kind of bogus if you ask me since I'm under warranty for *4*. I guess I thought 4 years was four years. WRONG! Not exactly. What a bunch of crap.
This may be common knowledge to all of you but I have to admit this is my first experience with a warranty. My last car was a honda and I didn't bother to pay for it since I knew I wouldn't need it. Anyway, I admit it, I'm pissed off, even if it's my responsibility to be aware of all the BS in the contract. Live and learn. Thanks for letting me vent.

As an afterthought, Saab also won't allow me to buy an extended warranty through them for the same reason. Apparently you have to buy that within the first 3 years also (even though I'm covered for another year and/or 20k miles right now) on my current warranty. They declined to take my $2,700 for an extension. This 3 year thing is a real delight. Know your terms.
