They put the term under which they are willing to pay for the service right out there for the owner to read and understand. There is a difference between the warranty, and the paid service terms, and there is no ambiguity in these two issues. What does sound a little on the non customer friendly side of this episode is the fact that the dealer first released the car to the owner with a N/C statement, then wanted to go back after the fact and collect, since they assumed that Saab would be totally unwilling to make any considerations on this. I believe that Saab is one of the better companies out there when it comes to trying to take care of it's owners in questionable situations. It appears that this owners only fault is not driving as much as others might have reasonably done in the three year period allowed for paid service. I have to believe that the company would have done something for him,and that the dealer should be running interference for him. One thing you never know in cases like this is whether or not there has been bad blood between the customer and the dealer's service dept on other issues that might have affected thier decision to let him "twist in the wind". I think a few well chosen( meaning- diplomatic) words with the dealer on how this might affect future business would resolve this in the owner's favor.
