http://crashtest.com has a compendium of NHTSA, EU and insurance co. statistics.
The 02-03 9-5 is at the top of the heap in all respects. The earlier 9-5 had the best performance in EU tests of any car tested up to that time.
NHTSA ratings, and crash test ratings in general, are far from the final word on safety. Your NG900, despite marginal results in some nhtsa tests, is in the 'most safe' category for available insurance company injury statistics and by Folksam (a Swedish insurer that inspects accidents). This is data based on performance in real crashes.
A few months ago I heard a CBC radio report on the poor coorelation between ratings based on lab crash tests versus real-world death and injury statistics, and a resultant push by some automakers and safety advocates to rework the NHTSA tests. Also, it was argued that, in order to meet NHTSA tests, some vehicles (esp SUVs) had been 'armoured' in a way that made them more dangerous to other vehicles in multivehicle accidents. I wish I could find a web reference to that, or related text article. Anyone?
