Same thing for me - a 97 900s. I'm now planning to upgrade to a 9-5 wagon for the added safety features - side impact air bags, 2 speed front impact airbags. The 9-5 has a four star rating on the European site (you can link to Europe, Japan and Australia sites from the iihs site - someone else posted that link), the new 9-3 actually has a five star rating. I believe the Mercedes E class also has a five star rating. The only thing missing from the Saab seems to be side curtain airbags (the new 9-3 has them). Also if you look at the test results for the Saab at the iihs sight, they'll give you the technical comparisons b/n the cars (i.e., even though 2 cars may be rated good, one might have lower force on the passengers in a crash). Finally, the ESP system is considered an important safety feature.
