WAnt to find out at what point the drivetrain gives up the ship? not me, and not on my car. An ex boss who worked at McLaren engines anumber of years ago told me a joke about how you determine the right torque for a bolt. Turn it till it breaks, then back off half a turn! That is the point of having the manufacturer test things in a controlled environment, and then choosing a value that the general public can and shold live with. Unless you are racing, why would you want your car's state of tune to be so close to the breaking point that you can actually reach it?
The fact is, the 9-5's ability to put the power and torque to the ground is a valid reason to limit the amounts available in first and second. I have driven the 305 HP Hirsch version, and can honsetly say that the stock aero with auto and 250 HP moves off the line better and with more control at wide open throttle than the manual trans Hirsch setup. Until Saab goes to AWD for a high end performance model, the 250 HP level of the Aero is more than enough to match the abilities of the chassis.
