I decided a few days ago during a similar discussion to check what speeds I shifted at and found that it was variable for any given situation. What I found happening is that depending on the situation I was doing anywhere from about 1500 RPM to 2500 RPM every time when I completed the shift and the RPM I shifted at was whatever RPM would leave me at the RPM I sensed was necessary in the next gear.
I don't remember what the shift points were for my 2000 Aero to accomplish this but I do know where this habit came from. My first manual shift car was a '78 ALFA Romeo Sprint Veloce. This car wouldn't get out of its own way under 2500 RPM so my normal driving shift points were 4000, 3800, 3500 and 3000 for 1st through 4th which left me at 2500 RPM in the next gear after each shift. For some reason it appears I have been doing the shifting in a similar manner ever since.
