Advertising, dealer prep and destination charges were not add ons, per se, but I was told that they would sell the car at invoice less the $5500 in incentives and loyalty discount. The numbers were not increased from what I was told (well, actually they were, but for another reason). The question came up when I was reviewing the printout showing the invoice - there were separate line items for the above. My question was despite the numbers I was quoted, were they invoice? Clearly the other dealers around here were doing the same thing, as another (the autobytel and carsdirect dealer) quoted 1% over invoice less incentives (apparently using the same "invoice" number), and the other just gave a number greater than the other two (b/c the car - wagon with MT - was hard to find -- this was also the dealer that told me that incentives in July were the same as June, and then when I said no thanks, said oops, I missed the page listing the increase in the aero incentives, we won't be undersold). My internet search this morning said don't pay dealer prep, but most sites said you can't avoid advertising (reverse logic - the advertising worked, I bought the car, why charge me?) and don't pay document fees. Then I went to kbb.com and it listed dealer prep and destination charges as mandatory charges for Saab. Looking at Volvo and Subaru, dealer prep wasn't listed, so in the end, I was tired and I just paid it.
