Came home from college during a break back in '82 or '83. My dad picked me up at the airport -- his 528e was covered with big globs of tar -- windshield, side windows -- every body panel. Evidently he was behind a tar truck with issues (and didn't bother to pass?). I loved that car -- a metallic blue/green with black leather and a 5 spd. manual. Well, he took a screw driver to it and tried to remove the mess (this is so keeping with his character -- anything can be fixed with a hammer). Next time I returned from break (not too long after that episode), he had a new 528 (black this time and saldy an automtic). His comment..."that car was a mess...couldn't get the tar off."
In his time, he's gone through about 12 5-series. He's in real estate and frequently has his eyes on property and not the road. Consequently, he never gets to drive my Aero (he had one as a loaner from the BMW/Saab dealer he uses and liked it...said it's equiv. to the 5 Series). Fortunately he's sold land to that dealer, so they treat him well as the frequent shopper he's become. Don't know how he has insurance to this day!
'02 Aero wagon, unscathed by father!
