Had a '94 9000CS, now a '99 9-5. The 9000 was slightly less reliable than the 9-5 (always something to fix on either one). But the 9-5 has a *much* better ride... you don't feel every bump and crack in the road like on the 9000, and you can take a long ride and still feel fine in the 9-5, whereas in the 9000 you came out like a whipped dog.
My advice would be to get as late a production model as you can afford. The '99 model seems to have more troubles compared to the 2000+ models.
