I wouldn't be surprised that one reason why red survive longer than black is because the T5 ECU is "dumber" than the T7 ECU, meaning it doesn't know better than keeping the car running until the DI cassette is REALLY bad.
The T7 ECU is so "super sofisticated" and running parameters so tightly set that each and every little deviance in the cassette makes the ECU shut down the car or even "kill" the DI????
Maybe one of the things with the new software down load is to widen the parameters of the ECU, what to accept as bad or not.
The other theory I have is that maybe they used 23 cent part in the first black DI cassettes instead of a 28 cent part.
Not all cassettes die the same way. Sometimes it is a seperate coil going out, sometimes it is an electronic piece buried in the epoxy that meets a fiery death creating the "burned plastic" smell.
