Hi,
On August 14th (2004) I bought a 2001 Saab 9-5 Wagon SE.
It appeared to have been in GREAT shape with 31,000 miles.
I absolutley loved (still do).
On Saturday August 21st, when I stopped at a stop sign. My engine just died for no apparent reason. I tried to start it a couple of times after which I called OnStar since I was in a bad side of town broken down and required assistance.
A tow truck came and loaded my 9-5 on a flat bed. I requested that the car would be taken to the nearest Saab dealer which was about 1.5 miles away. We followed the truck with a friend that was nice enough to pick us up. When we got to the dealership we noticed that smoke was coming out of the engine compartment.
The tow truck driver came out of the truck all frantic signaling us to stand back. He open the hood and the engine just burst in flames. While he was extinguishing the flames my wife had called 911. Needless to say that we were just in shock. After the fire fighters came they hosed the engine with some sort of dry chemical and put down everything that I had just described above. Just before they left they offered to push the car into one of the available spots there. We obviously agreed. As they were pushing the car the engine had burst in flames AGAIN.

When they were done we locked the car and left the keys to allow the mechanics to look at the car when they come back on Monday. That Monday I called Saab customer service and told them the entire story. They opened a file and said that they will contact the dealer and work from there.

After I was done with Saab I called the dealer and told them the whole story. Later that day I was told that a person from Saab will come and see the car on Thursday (August 26) and they will see what he suggests doing.

Today is Wednesday and I called Saab again to see if they know of any developments. All they could tell me is that as far as they know right now there was severe damage to the wire harness which basically tells me nothing.

Well Thursday is tomorrow and I am all anxious to hear what he has to say.

What do you think about all of this? What should I expect of them. What do you think might have caused all of this?

Thanks
