Before switching over to G-05, I had occasion to talk to one of Valvoline's coolant chemists (Zerex) a few years ago. According to him, you can mix G-48 and G-05 without penalty. You can also bring up the full data sheets on both at the Valvoline Zerex website (if still available) and they are extremely close, essentially identical as I remember. Only reason there are two specs is I guess due to the euro automakers.
That said, I'd still do a flush and fill with G-05 and just stick with it, as I've done on both my Saabs.
Prestone? Who knows? To me it's not worth the time and aggravation to dig into the chemistry or studies to substantiate their claims, which is not an insignificant endeavor. Too much marketing hype and disinformation with coolants out there for me to just take 'em at their word. Let's not forget that it was years before the problems cropping up with Dexcool really started hitting the grapevine.
Just my 2 cents.
