I wouldn't over-complicate the problem. Just use a good quality antifreeze. I've used prestone in my older BMW for over 7 years. I change it every 24 months as suggested in the owners manual.
As you probably know, ethylene glycol is the base part of the "antifreeze formula".
I changed the water pump on my BMW as part of the normal maintenance cycle (timing belt change). The new pump has worked fine. I'm sure Bavarian Motors, like SAAB, has a new improved exotic formula, that is "best" and "must" be used.
I sorry, I don't buy it. If your concerned about corrosion, give it a litmus test. Antifreeze lowers the freezing point and raises the boiling point, period.
I have a 99 9-5 SE. My water pump failed at 53K and it wasn't due to the antifreeze.
IF your car is newer, to preserve the warranty, go for the SAAB version, otherwise, consider the alternatives. I've always had good luck (i.e. no corrosion, sludging of the radiator, boil-overs or freeze-ups) with name brand antifreeze.
Good luck and use your best judgement. You picked a SAAB, that says something.
