My gut feeling after spending a year lurking on BITOG with the oil nerds, is "any dino oil can easily do 5000k in most any car that recomends less than synthetic blend, And any full synthetic can do 8,000k in any car, period, assuming normal driving habits." I go 9k in the turbo, and could probably go 12k if it was more highway miles than city.
Quite frankly, it bothers me that people are wasting our oil reserves on 3000 mile changes, not to mention the stress on the recycling / environment. Oils today have such a robust antioxidant package, and good base stock, that it's a shame to dump them at short intervals.
Just my current rant.
Cheers!
Craig
