Well-
The 5W-40 makes no recommendation as to drain interval, except to say that it will last (at least as long) as the factory recommended drain interval.
In Europe, this is 15,000 miles or more for many cars, but then they are running oil which meets/exceeds the European oil specs.

I tested AMSOIL in my 1985 Volvo turbo many years back. The factory recommended drain at that time was 3500 miles. I ran the AMSOIL 11,000 miles. An oil sample showed the oil still suitable for continued use, but it had been in a year and I decided I had gotten my moneysworth.

Don't drive as much now as I used to--cheap airfares are part of it. I generally average about 10K a year now. I figure I can afford to throw away good oil yearly--especially since I get it at dealer cost.

Having said that, I'm sure that the AMSOIL will go at least 10K, probably 15-20K in a turbo. Best way to find out for sure is to pull an oil sample after the first recommended drain interval, and see what the lab says.
If the oil is still suitable for continued use, change the filter, top off and run another 5,000 miles or so. That way, you will be basing your drain interval on science, rather than taste, smell, feel, or how the bones drop.

Last week we ran into a Hospital Administrator who is running all his equipment on AMSOIL at double the previous drain interval. He said he is probably throwing away good oil, but figures at the very least he is breaking even on the lubes, saving on the fuel and wear.

Sorry for the slow response time, but was out of town in the heartland of America.
