There is no need to have the dealer buy the car and put it under the cert program. I bought my car from a private sale and for $1800 (I think)I was offered the dealer extened warranty. there was a $500 fee and 13-1400 for the warranty. The fee was to certify the car prior to applying the warranty. Since the car ( and most) are dutifly serviced by a dealer ( for free), they can check to see if it was well maintained and run it through the shop. Check your dealer (Or the one where the prior owner bought it)
