I got a 48mo, 80K km warranty from "Drive Assured". I thought it was comprehensive, but am finding out now that it is far from it (see my Drive Belt problem below).
Long story short: Failed pulley --> shredded serp belt --> locked up the tensioner and water pump. Total damage $1642 Canadian. Total re-imbursement from Drive Assured $126.
They only covered the failed pulley (parts and labour), and the $75 tow, minus a $100 deductible. Their rationale was that the subsequent damage to tensioner and water pump was caused by the damaged belt, which is a non-covered failure. Actually, here's the exact wording in the contract:
"Exclusions from Coverage:
11. Consequential losses or damages unless specifically covered herein, or damage to a covered part from a non-covered part."
I've been told by many sources to only get the manufacturer's extended warranties - they're pricier, but they *might* have a vested interest in keeping you happy and to continue to drive their product.
