Per Dealer Hardware is same...

I asked the Service Advisor several times and in different ways. The result was the same:
The replacement DI Cassett has the same p/n as the old. ( I don't know the old p/n).
My question to all is:
Does Saab up rev the existing p/n or they assign new p/n for every new hardware (DI) revision?
Or might be the dealer neglected to mention "same p/n but different revision." That would make a BIG difference.
Datecode helps to determine the "freshness," but not thing more.
Thank you all for your different view points; very educational for me.
I hope my wife will get back to drive the Saab in a week or two. In the meantime, I drive the Saab.
