Per the original memos regarding the software change, it also changes teh spark drive logic to (hopefully) extend the part life. Some knowledgeable people are skeptical of this claim, but it could be effective. When looking at fatigue type failures, there is a very small step between essentially infinite life and 100 million cycles (the number of sparks in, say, 25,000 miles). As they say, we'll see...
