Cat. heat shield Posted by Jon [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Cat. heat shield caused $$ electric problems, George M, Fri, 18 May 2001 00:00:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I replaced the one on my 91 convertible this week. I removed the back seat bottom, removed the drivers seatbelt bolt at floor, lifted carpet only enough to remove the rear two torx head screws.
I unbolted the cat from the downpipe, ground the screw threads off, taking enough of the old heat shield to break it free.
I removed the two torx head screws from the center from under the car.
I used a drill to finish removing the remnants of the sheet metal screw from under the car. I then welded a hex nut to the floor pan where I removed the screw.
Then positioned the new heat shield, installed the center bolts from the bottom, the rear screws from the top, the new bolt from the bottom, into the welded-on nut. Re-installed the cat to the down pipe.
It will now be easier to replace it the next time.
Hope this helps someone.
