The fact that it will start after sitting just a few minutes or after sitting overnight sounds like injector leaking.
A test;
with the car idling after a drive, pull the fuel pump fuse, engine will die from lack of fuel. Shut off ignition, replace fuse, wait 30 min, if the car starts ok, try it one more time.
2nd possibility, leaking diaphram on fuel pressure regulator.
test;
if you have a vac tester, pull a vac on fpr and see if it holds, or;
disconnect vac line to fpr with engine running, shut off engine, see if fuel comes out of the regulator after a while.
