Before you embark on the adventure of doing it on your own...
I had this same problem and it got really bad until a co-worker mentioned the 3M spray. Bought it, now I should mention that I had a very bad sagging liner...touching the headrests...I cut through it and sprayed it thoroughly and like the directions suggest (some waiting period) ...I then attached the liner to the top and pinned it in place so that it would have time to dry without the weight sagging it.....next day??...removed the pins and down came the liner.
I hoped it would work but the reality is that the liner is attached to a foam material which is then attached to the particle board backing. The foam is what's decaying, decomposing, or breaking down....adding a tacky spray...at least in my case...was just making some loose foam stick together but not liner to p.board as originally intended.
Other options??
Drive around to detail shops for quotes...and then go to detail shops in the city, those without signs on the front of the building. I got one ~$50 quote this way & the work is excellent!
In the interim, I went and bought beige felt fabric and cut a square piece and affixed it to the ceiling using these 'specially for liner pins' that screw in place. Adds character...and better than not being able to see behind you in the car...
