I just bought such a beast, so did Stephen (Smooooth). We both got 1994 ragtops, turbo, 5speed (i think his is 5speed). I got mine at 58k miles. It's a beauty, and i LOVE it. It was in top mechanical shape, very good cosmetic shape, and I really got the price WAY down. The lady didn't know what she had. Gotta love rich people who throw money around. She was happy to get more than the Audi dealer offered, I was happy to get what I consider a bargain.
From everything I've read, I'd have to advise getting a 5-speed. The autos die early, are loud on the highway, 3 speed, and sluggish. Never owned one, so I can't say from firsthand experience.
As with any used car, get it checked out by a mechanic, maybe run the VIN at your Saab dealer if the service writer or tech is friendly enough to do so. I found out mine had a new timining chain and head gasket done. Run a carfax, or have someone do it for you.
I'm learning to do my own work on easier jobs. One thing folks like to do when they get a new car of this vintage is flush all fluids and filters just in chase the previous owner let it go a bit long. You know, "i'm selling it soon, it doesn't need that major service/oil change, etc." Attack the list the mechanic found as you can based on priority.
A good bargaining chip (or so I've heard) is the top condition. If it looks ratty, you can have a dealer do it to the tune of $1500+. Using Pat Price's DIY directions and a $500 top, you've just saved $1000. See http://216.78.172.244/body_folder/900_-_94_cv_top_faq.htm
Sounds like you've found a car with great miles for the vintage. That or you've set a target at 60k. It's either a city car or a 3 season car, that may make a difference to you.
