Dont let yourself get talked into using redline that easily. Its a huge issue here and people are either 100% for it or 100% against it. The safe bet is to use 10w-30. Thats what i use and here's my story:
my 1991 900S was purchased by me at 136,000 miles. when i got the car the fluid in the transmission was 100 percent original. I was completely upset and that explained the slight whining noise the transmission was exhibiting. I promptly drained the fluid and replaced it with regular 10w-30 and about 500 miles later.... i must say the transmission is a good bit quieter. The old fluid was the propper level but it was thin like water....black....and it smelled AWFUL. im getting ready to change it again, this time removing the back plate and cleaning some sort of magnetic filter.
be sure and research the history of motor oil vs redline on saabnet before you decide.
I have 145,000 miles now and all is still quiet and well.(not that that is alot of miles)
