I used Mobil 1 10w-30 synthetic in mine. I tried briefly 5w-30 first, thinking that maybe it's colder flow point would help shifting in the morning, but I saw no improvement and chickened out, putting 10w-30 back in. My guess (*guess*) is that heat is rarely if ever a problem in the transmission, so a higher temp tolerance isn't a big deal. What I can say is that Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil had noticably better shift quality than 10w-30 Castol GTX. That's all I know... :)
As for the trannies, all but one are gone. Still have that '80 5-speed, which I'm thinking is worth hanging onto for a quick rebuild and putting into my 99T when its new motor is ready in two years... :)
