Would like you to get a SAAB as much as anybody, but here's the well-intentioned, tongue in cheek reality check:

1. The *newest* hardtop 900 is 9 yrs old, just in time to start showing it's fussy side (and do they know fussy). Turbo models in particular may have had hard lives thus far. And the transmission? Think of that beautiful drive chain whine as a ticking timer on your transmission - and when it goes unexpectedly and suddenly at ~100,000 - 200,000mi, better have $2000+ in the savings account and another car to drive for 1-3weeks.

2. No idea what your income is. But, parts and repairs can be knee-shaking expensive thru the dealer. Find out if you have access to a reputable independent saab shop IN THE AREA (tow bills are a bite; get AAA). Finally, I'd strongly advocate that if you don't dabble in auto/engine repair now, now's the time to cross that bridge. There are many minor (and common) repairs that practically anyone can do with some guidance/tools (ah, yes, and have access to or can buy some basic tools and have workspace available). Ah yes, and buy the Robert Bentley repair manual for your yr SAAB and spend a lot of time on Saabnet, either venting and/or asking Q's.

3. Once you buy a SAAB, it will follow you around like a big-eyed puppy that pees everywhere. And you know how hard it is to say 'no' to a big-eyed puppy even when it pees on everything, much less give it away to a new home. I call it SAAB-blindness; no matter what bad luck befalls you and the car, rational thinking goes out to lunch and you just keep pluggin' quarters in the thing. Yup, they're that fun to drive.
