In your original post you asked about online auctions and their reliability. I assume you can only mean eBay. Just thought I'd let you know I've bought a Volvo and my Saab off eBay within the last year, with no major problems. I live in IL, driving home from NC and NJ in my new-to-me cars. I'd recommend you try to find a private seller rather than a dealer, but dealers with good feedback ratings are okay too (they just don't talk much or know a whole lot about the car they're selling). What is ESSENTIAL, though, is to have a lengthy communication going with the seller. Ask several questions, and if he doesn't answer them to your satisfaction, you'll have to be willing to leave it. I had 6 pages of e-mails from my Volvo seller before I plunked down the winning bid. Although I paid a little more than I wanted to for it, I felt very comfortable knowing I was getting a good car, which it is. Saabs are addictive, so if this is your first, prepare to keep on owning them for awhile. Go with '91-'93. If it has between 90K and 130K on it, you can one of these classic Saab 900's for $2200 to $3500 on eBay, which is about $1500 to $2000 below kbb value. Convertibles are not qute as much the bargain, about $4000 to $6000 if you get one in that age/mileage range. Be willing to be patient. There's ALWAYS new cars available if you give it a few days. Assume you'll need to put about $500 into the car within the first 3 months, as you would with about any used car. Good luck
