The Bentley manual says to replace (not reuse) the caliper mounting bolt that you unscrew then swing up the caliper then change the front brake pads. This is in 900 after 1987 (88-93).
I could be senile, but I don't remember ever having been charged for this when I had my brake pads changed. ***Is this a required step?***
I was thinking of replacing the front brake pads myself in about 10,000 mi. However, I only do work that I enjoy and where my workmanship is at least equal to or better than a good shop.
