Townsend vs. SaabCenter

Ok, now I'm really confused! Easy to do, as I'm just learning here.
I am reviewing all info I can find on replacing my clutch. I am reading through the various procedures (Bentley, twinsaabs.com, Townsend imports) and I called the sponsor SaabCenter to get parts prices.
Townsend says I should be prepared to take out the flywheel, its pilot bearing and the engine seal behind it, replacing the last two items. SaabCenter said you don't even touch the flywheel to replace the clutch assembly, so unless you know for sure it's hosed don't mess with it - why grab extra hassle?
Well - jeezo. What to do? I am trying to get all my parts and tools ordered and lined up **before** I open up the car. I do not want to end up having to pack everything up while I wait for shipping on more parts that I didn't know I'd need. Then again, I don't want to replace stuff I don't need to fiddle with, either.
Any opinions here? Why does Townsend recommend messing with the flywheel? Do we really know that a stock flywheel with 125k miles in a failed-slave-cyl-clutch is going to need resurfacing? Should I really just bite the bullet here?
Many thanks,
Chris
