Easily lost with a bad cap or even a loose cap. I'm surprised that you do not notice a slightly higher temperature reading. Why don't you take a ride down to Flemington and stop at Sobstory and meet Jim Moncrief. He can help you sort out your problems.
If you do not remove the bolt from the block to drain out all the old coolant, and just drained from the radiator petcock, you did not really flush your system. It is possible to pressure flush with a garden hose through a heater hose and out other hoses without pulling plug, but it's better to run water through every possible coolant path. Takes one minute to remove block plug bolt.
