Nicholas-
My brother and father drove the Alcan in January. There's a bunch of stuff to look out for, besides moose and other stuff stated here. Mostly that many towns appearing large on the map were completely boarded up, making it difficult to get fuel. I'm not sure when your spring break is, but it's hard to say if many of those places will be open then. They carried at least 10 extra gallons of fuel and were lucky to find fuel in a couple of spots. They drove a full size Chevy Blazer w/ 4" lift and 35" tires and were very glad to have the traction and sidewall flex from that package, due to very uneven pavement and snow covered road that is difficult to see contrast in.
Other interesting notes were that they saw other traffic in nearly 4 hour intervals, and a moose bedded down and sleeping in the road looks a lot like a puddle from a distance. I'm not sure how early traffic starts getting thicker, but I'd want to be very confident that I could spend the night in my car at a record low. Also don't count on a cell phone too much. There's not many cell phone towers in areas with population densities below 1 person per square mile.
There's always the ferry out of Seattle or Vancouver BC.
