Hello All,

Its been a long while since ive been on here, but as my awareness of the saab's state has increased due to its caterwauling, I am back.

I just replaced my alternator and bushings, and it is much happer in that respect, but now I have diagnosed an extremely bad Harmonic Balancer (crank shaft pulley). It has such a wobble that it is shaving off metal from the the face of the oil pump housing. My question is this:

The damage does not seem to have scraped so deep that I need to worry about structural integrity. When I called my local dealer, the mech said something vague about possible damage to the oil pump. As far as I have read so far, there is a set of two gears, teeth in/teeth out that drives the oil pump. However, if the seal is in good enough shape so that I don't have a real bad oil leak, I'm hoping that none of this metal has gone inside that area to cause damage. Are there symptoms that I should be looking for regarding needing to RandR the oil pump kit? I'd like to order all the parts at once, and dont want to order an oil pump unless i have to.

second q: It appears that the "later model saabs" require an reference sensor aperture disk to do the crankshaft pulley job, and one site I found said that this is only for 89/90 cars. I couldnt figure out what year your spg is, so I'm not sure if you'll be able to help me out on this question. I think I read that if you dont reseat the seals correctly down there, you are asking for leaks, and I'd hate to have to go back in there again. Any info?

thanks again everyone,
Dave
