Yes, you have to pull the whole engine out because the engine and trans are "united" as one. Some guys have pulled out trannys without removing the engine, however. To me, it's not that difficult to pull out the engine/tranny... probably take it out under 3 hours. My personal record for changing a clutch on a base model 900 is 23 minutes. With the right tools, the 900 clutch is the easiest known to man :)
