I dated a girl a good while back that had and old 4WD (not AWD) Subuaru station wagon. That car was unstoppable in the snow. Handled much better than an SUV because of it's low center of gravity, but it had just as much ground clearance. She picked me up one day after a 12 inch snow storm, and we went out driving just for the heck of it. She loved driving into an uncharted road with 2WD on, getting stuck, then pulling the stick back and watching the snow fly as the car would zip right out!
