Get the brake leak fixed first and then I think you should buy a Bentley manual and familiarize yourself with the car's workings.
The A/C expansion valve is not near the fan and is not part of the engine cooling system. It's in refrigerant circuit right near the evaporator. It is tested with an A/C pressure guage set. You can't replace it without evacuating the A/C system and then refilling with freon.
The coolant reservoir is not a simple overflow tank. It is pressurized.
What you call a diverter valve is the heater control valve.
