My central locking system stopped working suddenly. I found the problem due to the wires which run between the driver door switch and the fuse box had disintegrated. All have the insulation crumbling off them so they short together and one broke all the way through where it passes through to the door. I know that on '85 through '87 they had a problem with this (wiring disintegrating).
I'm going to run new wires but want to replicate the existing ones the best I can. Existing are three wires: one brown, one blue, and one green/white. Their cross-sectional size is 1.0mm^2 (roughly equivalent to 17 AWG).
I can't for the life of me find these colors in 17 AWG stranded. 17 AWG seems to be a weird in-between size. I can find either 18 gauge (smaller) or 16 gauge (bigger). Should I go bigger or smaller on the wire gauge?
Local stores don't stock these colors either. I have to special order them on the internet, I think.
Thanks in advance as always.
