Typical 85 wiring issues.... Posted by Jon [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: What the heck..., Draken, Thu, 23 Dec 2004 12:41:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Some 85's are worse than others. As you can see this is the wiring under the fuse box. I convinced the owner of this car to pull the fuse box, this on a $300 "project" car. I am not sure if he is going to attempt to replace each wire one at a time or rewire the car with a differant year harness. His plan was to replace the blown 85 motor with one from an 89, so a wiring harness from another year car would work, it is just a lot of work. But then again, so would replacing each wire one at a time. Anyways....
What I would suggest is for you to just grab as much wiring from a Saab parts car and use what you need. I have used many wires from an 86 on a few of my cars, just so I have the correct color and gauge wire.
BTW, I have cars from 81 thru 91 and the 85 is the only year with the "disintegrating" wiring. The photo below is from my 85 SPG.
