Mmmm, I think all the connectors and such had changed by '91 but why not find out?
I'd pull the interior door panel since they only take a minute or two and see what's holding them in that way. Keep in mind it's a junkyard car and that's why you go there is to practice taking it apart and breaking what will break on a car nobody cares about anymore so you don't break stuff on your own car.
If the Volvo is a white '85 740 sedan with a slushbox and you notice it's got vacuum and volt meters on the dash or you see the outline of a National Association of Railroad Passengers bumper sticker left on the bumper, kick it for me. Hard.
Retaining screws for the mirrors should be behind the cover inside the door. If the mirror glass itself is loose from the backing, signifying that your Saab is 12-15 years old, take it off (before it falls off) and re-glue it.
