Ok, waited all week for my ebay replacement ignition assembly. Went out in 40 degree weather.. bolted it up, and ... the key still free spins... wtf???
This assembly included a different lock cylinder, and ign switch - could it just be my luck is that bad??
Is there a trick to bolting up the new assembly? 1. Shifter in reverse. 2. battery disconnected 3. key in cylinder... what am i missing? I went to turn key, felt a bit of resistance at first.. took the key out, then turned again, and it just spun.. no resistance, no spring back from the start. and when i plugged in the ignition wires.. car was still stuck in the on position (with drain) like it was when i took out the old assembly and had to disconnect the battery. when the assembly is out of the car, should the key be able to move at all? I'm starting to think I'm gonna have to have it towed to the local indie mech near Philly and just ante up the estimated 300-400 this is gonna cost me.. I'm quite pissed as it seems like this should be much easier to deal with.. I've got spark off of the battery, I can hear the starter clicking, I just can't get the car out of the "on" position. common sense is telling me either A: Because i disconnected the car in the on position and tore out the assembly, I have to manually reset to the "off" state, or b: the car should be resetting to the "off" state when a new assembly is dropped in with key turned off, and new gearset and ignition switch are introduced over the assembly mount on the console..
Am i close? what is the mystery behind this freakin' lock cylinder??
