I haven't pulled the replacement ignition assembly out yet, for fear of wrecking it more, and partly for laziness. That, after all was my reason for dropping in the whole assembly with new key and switch! :P

It seems like it's cheaper to buy a used assembly than a replacement gearset!? But you're saying even when the lockset and ignition switch are already in the assembly, and I'm ready to bolt everything up to the lower plastic housing, the key should be in the RUN position? oh man, then I DEFINITELY screwed up this last assembly myself.. Oh well, I've got another one on the way..

I should still be able to feel each detent when the key turns, when i get this new assembly though, right? that way i know, if it's free spinning before it's even attached to the lower plastic housing, it's no good, yes?

I better replace my battery too.. seems like it barely had the juice to activate the passive seat belts this last time i hooked it up..

I will check out the reference images tonight.. part of the difficulty here is that the car is on the street in the cold, and I just moved to another apartment.. so I'm taking the subway to the car's location, trying to work on it while i have daylight, and locking everything up so no grabs the tools out of the hatch.. I only get one tow from AAA and I'm trying to hold out towing it to the mechanic - not when the fix is just a matter of swapping out parts...

I hope part of the problem doesn't have to do with this cheap alarm the previous owner tried to wire into the ignition.. I think i've isolated the wiring for that - and I'm about ready to cut the damn thing out of there once i can get the car started..

alright, I'm off to check out those pics..

thankx again!
