Agree with all the good stuff people have posted here... but the reality of having owned a ton of c900s, some low mileage (sub 100K), up to 300K on one, it's really just a fault of the design of the transmission, the fluid and the wear on the trannies. And possibly the fact that most of us have marginal clutches and a floormat under the clutch pedal that prevents that very last bit of travel. Even w/ a perfect clutch, they're all a little bit balky getting into 1st at a stop & 2nd/3rd synchros even when good give a slight bit of this when fluid is cold.
Best thing I have done on my cars is to flush trans fluid & convert to Redline MTL. Drain, fillerup w/ Redline MTL, drive 500 miles, drain again, repeat with MTL. See where you are. This is assuming that all your shifter connectors, adjustment and shift shaft bushings are good. This has eliminated (100%) any slight bump or grinding on my 90 SPG (tranny rebuilt w/ approx 60K on it now) in 2nd and 3rd gear. I know there are alot of theories about what fluid, saab gen 1 synthetic fluid, gear oil, all that. But really, I've tried THEM ALL. Redline MTL is best on my cars over temp ranges from 100+ degrees to way below freezing.
