I simply meant by the "not a Dremel" comment that I am not going to do the polishing with a Dremel. There is no way such a small tool can get a reliable polish across a large area. You need something bigger if you're going to do it right, and preferably some sort of machine which can do it on 100 lenses and do it the same every time. My hand+1/2" Dremel polishing tool isn't going to do it even across two lenses.
Re: Films on lenses
Gotta disagree with you there. I had such a film on my 5-door for almost ten years and there wasn't a single stone chip or crack in the lenses before I bought it, or until 2006 when my roommate backed into the car - no idea how long they were on there in total. I don't think they will stop, say, a Ford Ranger from demolishing headlights, but they will stop errant roadway debris. They use the stuff on airplanes canopies to deflect airborne debris from cracking the canopy - they gotta have some benefit on the ground, too.
